Aspendos Antique City is located 48 km of the Antalya – Manavgat road.
It is seen that the city’s name was “Estvediya” on V-IV century Aspendos coins. Like Side, it is a city that coins its name.
Most of the buildings seen today in Aspendos remain from the Roman Period. Aspendos was heavily influenced by the Arab invasions in the 7th century AD and was taken in the 12th century by the Seljuks. Part of the theater was used as a palace.
The Aspendos theater is well knotted with well-shaved conglomerate stones and the door and window frames are made of cream colored limestone. The stage building is entered through three doors.
The stage wall has two floors. The windows in four rows have different shapes and heights in each row. The inscription on the door states that the theater was built by architect Zeno during the reign of Emperor Marcus Aurelius (161-180 AD) by Curtius Crispinus and Curtius Auspicatus.
